I pledge £2m for our kids

Victims' parents welcome Yousaf's support but say more work is needed to stop bullies

HUMZA Yousaf has thanked the Daily Record for its youth violence campaign as the Scottish Government pledges to invest £2million to protect young people in Scotland.

The First Minister said he will commit to working with the Record as part of its Our Kids...

Our Future campaign, which calls for ringfence funding to make sure every community has a place for teenagers to go.

The campaign also demands that social media giants enforce policies on tackling harmful content after a series of horrific attacks on kids were shared online, as well as asking every adult in Scotland to play a role in making sure children are safe from violence.

Paying gratitude to the Record for raising national awareness of the issue of youth violence, Yousaf said: "I'd like to thank the Daily Record for drawing attention to the pressures young people are facing through the important Our Kids... Our Future campaign.

"Any form of violence in our communities is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. That is why the Scottish Government is taking specific action to engage with young people to prevent violence and harm, backed up with investment of £2million.

"Bullying in schools is not a new issue, however social media means it has taken new forms and can be more visual than before.

"It is also vital to have a clear picture of the extent of bullying in schools at national level.
