It's amazing to reunite with Cheryl ... I miss her

The pair were among a sea of famous faces to appear on Ant and Dec's final Saturday Night Takeaway last weekend.

And Simon thoroughly enjoyed seeing Cheryl again, saying: "It was amazing, she hasn't changed at all.

"I miss her. We had great fun together. So it was a bit of a reunion."

Asked if he would work with Cheryl, 40, again, he said: "With the right show, 100 per cent. Because I think she was a really, really good judge."

Simon, 64, wrote in his 2012 biography he had wanted to have an affair with Cheryl, saying she "played with me like a beautiful cat".

The stars have both become parents since, with Simon's son Eric, nine, getting on well with Cheryl's lad Bear, seven.

In fact, Simon clearly values Eric's judgment on a lot of things - including the acts on Britain's Got Talent, which returns this weekend for its 17th series.

Eric often accompanies his dad to the theatre auditions and also watches rough cuts of the shows at home.

And Simon admitted his son has influenced the way he evaluates the performers such as Kimberly Winter, who belches along to ABBA tunes.

In the past, Simon could always be relied upon to give the most bonkers contestants short shrift.

But Kimberley is greeted with whoops and cheers rather than red Xs.

"You've got to remember she was doing it in tune, to ABBA, she wasn't just burping- that's a skill," he said.
