HIS distinctive cry of "se-VEN" has gone down in entertainment history but the joy Len Goodman brought to millions of Strictly fans was always a perfect 10.

And last night fellow judges, pro dancers and celebrity contestants lined up to pay tribute to the ballroom legend after his life was taken by bone cancer at the age of 78.

Many recalled warmly Len's love of colourful phrases, which included classic such as "pickle me walnuts" and "it's a 10 from Len" when a performance really impressed him.

The former East End barrow boy died at a hospice in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, surrounded by his family.

His agent said: "It is with great sadness we announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, aged 78.

"A much-loved husband, father and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him." Avid Strictly fan Queen Camilla, who shared a dance with him in September 2019 as part of the British Dance Council's 90th anniversary, said she was "saddened" by his death.

Dance judge Bruno Tonioli, who worked with Len on both the UK and American versions of Strictly, said he was "heartbroken".

He added: "I will treasure the memory of our incredible adventures and hundreds of shows.
