ENGLAND'S defeat to France in the World Cup quarter-finals was the most watched TV programme in Scotland last year with more than one million people tuning in.

A total of 1,085,000 viewers watched Gareth Southgate's team lose 2-1 in Qatar after striker Harry Kane missed a penalty.

The viewing figures meant the match, which aired on STV, was watched by more people in Scotland than the Queen's funeral which was the second most popular broadcast in the country.

A total of 1,059,000 watched the state funeral while an episode of BBC drama The Tourist was third with 1,041,000.
