MOEEN ALI warned the Aussies Ben Stokes would be England’s nuclear deterrent at Headingley again, saying: “With him, we’ve always got a chance.” 

On the ground where he unfurled a miracle four years ago, Stokes (80) rescued England with five sixes in a breathtaking counter-attack to limit their first-innings deficit to just 26 runs.

At the close, Australia had stumbled to 116-4- leading by 142- in the third Ashes Test after England recovered from 142-7 at lunch to reach 237 all out.

And captain fantastic Stokes - who battled knee, hip and glute problems for 166 minutes to keep his side afloat - unleashed another thrilling counter-attack.
