MUIR GOES THE EXTRA MILE

ANOTHER victory, another significant box ticked, Laura Muir insisted after winning the historic Wanamaker Mile at the Millrose Games.

But the Scot was made to work for her Saturday night spoils in the Big Apple. Dropped to third with two laps left, the 29-year-old engaged top gear at the bell then swept majestically past American Josette Andrews to triumph in 4:20.15.

Olympic silver medallist Muir said: It was my first time running Millrose but I really wanted to win it on the first go.

“So I'm so pleased I could do that. Last week in Boston was my first race over 3000m. And this was the first mile.

“But I felt a lot better. It was my sort of tempo and Id recovered from travelling from the UK. I felt comfortable and it’s nice to get back in the competitive environment after training over the winter’
