THE King and Queen brought Paris to a standstill as they were given a rock star welcome to kick off their state visit to France.
Charles and Camilla headed up a star-studded guest list at the stunning Palace of Versailles including Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger and French multibillionaire Bernard Arnault - the richest man in the world.
At the state banquet laid on last night, Charles delivered an impressive speech, flitting seamlessly between French and English, focussing on the strength of joint endeavours to deliver hope and prosperity for future generations.
While raising a laugh in diplomatically declaring "may the best team win" in the Rugby World Cup being hosted across the nation, the King said: "Our two countries are also working together to build opportunity for the next generation.
