Scots need Indy answers but have got nothing new

A SERIES of Scottish Government papers aimed at selling the benefits of independence have contained "nothing very new", a former Yes campaign chief has said.

Dennis Canavan was chairman of the official independence campaign's advisory board in the run-up to the 2014 referendum.

The former Labour MP welcomed Humza Yousaf's recent commitment that Scotland would have its own written constitution if the country voted to end the Union at a future date.

But he said recent publications had offered little new material compared with the original white paper on independence published in 2013.

Canavan said Scots were looking for "robust answers" on important issues such as the economy, currency and pensions.
