Security shortage closes Parliament

Union calls for action as protesters raise the level of risk

THE Scottish Parliament has been branded “unsafe” after the building was closed to the public last month over a lack of security staff.

Holyrood chiefs have admitted they need to bring staffing levels up following serious concerns raised by a major trade union.

MSPS have witnessed a spate of security risks in or near the Parliament in recent times.

Anti-oil protesters have regularly disrupted FMQs after infiltrating the public gallery.

Pro-Palestine campaigners also sparked alarm after occupying the roof earlier this month.
