SOCIALIST campaigner Tommy Sheridan has been left heartbroken after his mother died in a fire at her home.
The former MSP, 59, revealed Alice Sheridan, 84, was pronounced dead at the scene of the blaze at a flat in Glasgow's Invergyle Drive on Sunday night.
Emergency services had raced to the fire just before 8pm and investigations are continuing.
In an emotional social media tribute to his mum, Sheridan posted: "Our hearts are broken.
"Alice Sheridan was an incredible mum to us but also a very proud grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in law, sister, aunt and friend to many.
"She was Govan born and bred and fought injustice all her life.
"She was a passionate trade unionist and socialist who believed a better world was possible if enough of us fought for it.
"Her work with bar staff to organise them into a union and secure better wages and conditions was inspiring.
