ROCK legend Sir Rod Stewart has put his hand in his pocket to help a girl whose mum sometimes goes without food so her children won't starve.
The singer was upset to read about the plight of schoolgirl Sophia McKenzie and her family in yesterday's Daily Record.
He got in touch to offer to donate £2500 to help her mum Heather Griffiths with her financial struggles as the faltering economy squeezes household budgets to breaking point.
We told how Sophia, 10, had been asked to write about her hopes for the future as part of a task at school.
The Motherwell schoolgirl wrote a note on the how rocketing inflation and the cost-of-living crisis is affecting her family, who have had to turn to food banks to survive.
Sophia wrote: "I have a dream that one day we will live in a world where the cost-of-living crisis stops and everything is free and nobody struggles with not being able to eat.
It came after she noticed that her mum often skipped meals to ensure her four children have enough to eat.
You're In My Heart singer Sir Rod said: "When I read this story in the Record and saw the letter Heather's daughter wrote, it broke my heart. I simply had to find a way to help.
Single mum Heather was overwhelmed by Sir Rod's gesture.
