AT 7.30am the door swung open and there was Tina Turner beaming in her white dressing gown.

She welcomed photographer Duncan Raban into her room at the Hyde Park Hotel in London and offered him a croissant before sitting down for breakfast at a table at the end of her bed.

"Within five minutes of meeting her I was taking photos," says Duncan of that day in 1996.

After an earlier chance meeting with her manager at a party he sneaked into - Duncan was given unprecedented access to the star.

He would spend the day snapping her every move.

Duncan says: "She asked me about me and was really friendly, but said 'Look, we can't hang about too much, we're going to Paris." After take-off from Heathrow, Tina laughed at Duncan's jokes, then fell asleep a moment he immortalised in a photograph.
