SCOTS holidaymakers left stranded on b l a z e - h i t Rhodes have demanded to know why their flights took off when their resorts were already being evacuated.
Honeymooners Luna and Daniel Rolfe, from Glasgow, are among those who boarded planes headed for the wildfireravaged Greek island on Saturday, only to be dumped at evacuation centres.
The criticism came as the UK Government faced fury yesterday for failing to put Greek islands on the Foreign Office travel “red list”.
And despite a mass evacuation from Rhodes, Tory minister Michael Gove insisted it is still “safe” for Brits to go to the island – revealing he is heading for Greece on holiday next week.
Luna and Daniel, who slept on the floor of a school on the first night of their luxury five-star honeymoon, were desperate to get home last night as they headed for the airport.
Luna said: “Our family have been doing some research and there were tweets from the Greek government on Saturday morning, hours before we were due to fly, evacuating the area we were in. They’re all in Greek but, when you translate it, it says Kiotari was evacuated at 11am.
