We won't stop your safe drug use rooms

THE Tories confirmed yesterday they "will not intervene" to stop Scottish drug consumption rooms from going ahead.

Scotland Secretary Alister Jack told the Commons the UK Government would not block a proposed pilot so the Scottish Government would "now have no more excuses".

It comes after Scotland's Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain said people using drug consumption rooms would not be prosecuted - effectively giving the green light for a trial of safe.

It has been reported that a room in Glasgow could open in weeks.

The Daily Record has run a long-running campaign for a more progressive approach to drug addiction and treatment.

SNP ministers had speculated that the UK Government could block the trial.

Jack was asked by SNP MP Marion Fellows about discussions he had held with the Scottish Government.
