SCOTLAND’S Euro squad were devastated to learn about legend Alan Hansen’s serious illness when they arrived in Germany.
Coach John Carver revealed the bombshell news moments after their plane touched down on Sunday night.
Reports of the former Liverpool and Scotland defender’s health battle came while Steve Clarke and his players were en route to their Euros base camp in Bavaria.
And Carver was quick to send the team’s best wishes to the 68-year-old and his family.
He said: “We heard the news when we stepped off the plane on Sunday evening.
“I would just like to pass a message on and say that everybody here, the players, staff and everybody connected with the SFA, are thinking about Alan and his family. It’s an extremely difficult time.
“He was a fantastic defender but a tremendous ball-playing centre-half. The way he stepped out with the ball was just so graceful and that’s what I remember about him as a player.
