WE'RE STILL TRAPPED

SCOTS travellers remained trapped overseas and flights were cancelled all over Europe yesterday after an air traffic control meltdown continued to cause chaos.

Holidaymakers were hit by horrendous bank holiday delays after a technical fault led to a "networkwide failure" on Monday, which meant flight plans had to be input manually by controllers.

Hundreds of flights departing and arriving into Scottish airports have since been cancelled, with TV presenter Danni Menzies among scores of Scots left stranded.

The former A Place in the Sun star had been due to fly home from a holiday in Majorca with pals on Monday but described her airport experience as "carnage", saying they had sat on a plane for several hours before being told to disembark.

The presenter, from Perthshire, tweeted: "Airport carnage in Mallorca. Any idea on how I can get home asap with my heavily pregnant friend before Thursday as our best friend is getting married Friday. HELP!"

She later said her group were "stranded for the foreseeable" and they had been offered a flight "in a week".

Despite the issue being fixed the same day, tens of thousands more airline passengers suffered flight cancellations yesterday due to the knock-on impact.

In Edinburgh and Glasgow, numerous flights were still being hit by cancellations yesterday.

There were 103 cancellations of arriving and departing flights on Monday at Edinburgh and 20 further cancellations yesterday - 13 arriving flights and seven departing.

At Glasgow, around 50 arrivals and departures were cancelled on Monday and a further 20 yesterday.

An Edinburgh Airport spokesman said: "Schedules are now returning to normal however passengers should continue to check with their airline for flight information. As an airport, we will continue to support our partners and will assist with repatriation flights where required.
