Olympian 'overwhelmed' by support from public and the sporting world | Family agony as wife diagnosed with 'aggressive' multiple sclerosis

YOU'RE A SUPERSTAR IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD

COURAGEOUS Sir Chris Hoy was "overwhelmed" by public support after he announced his shocking cancer diagnosis yesterday.

The six-time Olympic champion, 48, has been given between two and four years to live. He told how his prostate cancer had spread throughout his body before it was diagnosed last year.

He revealed his wife Sarra, mum of their children Chloe, seven, and 10-year-old Callum has also recently been diagnosed with a severe form of multiple sclerosis (MS).

Calum, then aged nine, asked his dad if he was "going to die" following his diagnosis.

Chris told him no one lives forever but he hoped, thanks to medicine, "to be here for many, many years".

He decided to speak out to raise awareness about living with Stage 4 cancer.

Weeks before his diagnosis, Sarra, 40, a senior lawyer, had tests on a tingling sensation in her face. They revealed her MS was "very active and aggressive" and needed urgent treatment.

They have not told their children about her diagnosis.

Chris remains upbeat, however, posting on Instagram: "I just wanted to reassure you all that I'm feeling fit, strong and positive, and overwhelmed by all the love and support shown to my family and me. Onwards!"

Football star Ally McCist sent his "love and strength" and added: "You, my friend, are a superstar in every sense of the word."

First Minister John Swinney praised Hoy's "incredible courage" on X, adding: "I send every good wish to Sir Chris Hoy and his family.

"He has always inspired us by all that he has done. He is a person of incredible courage and that shines through today."
