Even World Cup final spot shouldn't save boss Steve

WHEN it comes to papering over the cracks, Steve Borthwick has done a seamless job so far.

England's head coach has risen from the ruins of the summer shambles to lead his team to the Rugby Union World Cup quarter-finals in France.

Awaiting them in Marseille today are Fiji, the 10th best team in the world and rank outsiders to win it all. 

A bit like England still are, to be honest.

That's because despite reaching the last eight of the tournament undefeated, nobody with half a brain should be fooled into thinking Borthwick and his men are on the cusp of achieving something remarkable across the Channel.

England lost to Fiji at Twickenham in a warm-up game just six weeks ago.
