That’s the view of F1 legend David Coulthard, who was commentating for Channel 4 when Russell became the 20th British F1 race winner.
The 24-year-old was unlucky not to break his duck when filling in for Lewis Hamilton at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix and Mercedes’ performance problems made the majority of this season frustrating in terms of challenging for victories.
But there were no issues at Interlagos last weekend.
Coulthard (above), a 13-time F1 race winner, said: “It was a great way to welcome another British winner in George.
“He is ahead of Hamilton in the championship, and there are a number of reasons why we can pick that apart – but he almost won on his debut for Mercedes, won the sprint and the full race at the weekend and he did it in absolute style.
