A HOPE IN HELL

CHILDREN have defied death to be pulled alive from the wreckage of the earthquake that has devastated parts of Turkey and Syria.

In touching photos, a rescuer gives water to a Syrian boy named Muhammed, who was saved in Hatay, Turkey.

Meanwhile, a girl protecting her brother in the rubble told rescuers: "Save us and we'll do whatever you want. But get us out of here." The seven-year-old, Mariam, and younger brother Ilaaf were trapped in the debris for over a day before making it to safety.

And two-year-old Vafe Sabha was pulled from underneath a collapsed concrete building after 44 hours along with her 33-year-old mother Imed Sabha, also in Hatay.
