Zahawi storm: He pays penalty' to Revenue to settle £5M tax bill row

FORMER chancellor Nadhim Zahawi paid a hefty penalty to tax chiefs, it was claimed yesterday.

The Tory chair was forced to cough up as part of a seven-figure settlement over his tax bill, according to sources.

Mr Zahawi, 55, is said to have paid the penalty to HM Revenue and Customs over an estimated £5million tax demand.

If he paid a penalty, it would be hugely embarrassing given he was once in charge of our tax system.
