Chinese crabs plaguing our waterways

MILLIONS of alien crabs have invaded our shores – eating native ones “out of house and home”.

The Chinese mitten crabs – named after their furry claws – are said to be among the 100 worst invasive species.

Now boffins are hoping Britain’s first Chinese mitten trap can catch the nippers.

Dr Paul Clark of the Natural History Museum, one of the scientists working on the project at Pode Hole, Lincs, said: “The mitten crabs are eating our native fauna.
