Aspinall awaits the honour of Wigan's big switch on

NO ONE has shone as brightly in the heavyweight division as Tom Aspinall over the last few years, but the new champion has yet to be given the ultimate accolade - turning on his hometown's Christmas lights!

Wigan's finest claimed the interim crown last month at UFC 295 when he KO'd Sergei Pavlovich inside 70 seconds at Madison Square Garden.

And while Aspinall had his name up in lights in New York, it was not enough to sway his local council, who opted for "Katy Ashworth from CBeebies and Andy Bennett from Ocean Colour Scene" to turn on the town's glowing Santas and neon snowmen.
