SAM YOU WIN

It's father, son and the holy grail for Burgess
DAVE CRAVEN
SAM YOU WIN

WARRINGTON boss Sam Burgess owes Wigan revenge for a defeat 34 years ago.

In 1990, his dad Mark played for Dewsbury in the Challenge Cup second round against the fearsome Cherry and Whites.

The burly front-row made more than 200 appearances with the likes of lower division Hunslet, Rochdale and Nottingham.

That game, then, would have been one of the biggest of his career.

But double-winning Wigan romped to a routine 30-6 win, with legends Ellery Hanley, Shaun Edwards and Andy Gregory all featuring, and they retained the trophy by beating Warrington at Wembley.

Burgess tragically died from motor neurone disease in 2007 when his teenage son Sam was just starting out in rugby league with Bradford, and the poignancy of the Wembley tributes tomorrow for MND campaigner Rob Burrow will doubtless resonate.
