MILLIONS are expected to pull sickies today and lap up the final day of the September heatwave in a Great British Bunk Off.
Experts predict it will be the biggest day of the year for skiving with a 20% surge in staff skipping work as the mercury soars to 28C before rapidly cooling to 21C and showers from tomorrow.
It comes after a week of record-breaking 30-plus scorchers following a washout July and August this year. BrightHR, which monitors absence among 814,000 British workers, said bosses should brace themselves for the number of staff playing hookey rising by a fifth today.
The firm added that holiday requests are also up by a quarter compared to a year ago when dismal conditions saw temperatures dip into the low teens at this time in 2022.
