SUB-LIME FOR MIKEL

EVERTON 0

ARSENAL 1

THE talk before the game was about Mikel Arteta's choice of goalkeeper.

The Arsenal boss insists his decision to give David Raya a debut ahead of Aaron Ramsdale was "rotation" and a show of strength in their squad having two players for every position.

But it was the Gunners' strength in another area which helped win this game.

The sight of Gabriel Martinelli going off injured minutes after having a goal ruled out for offside by VAR may have chilled Arsenal fans at Goodison Park in the past - a ground where they had not won since 2017 before yesterday.

But Arsenal boss Arteta could call upon Leandro Trossard to replace the Brazilian.

And it was his superb finish which finally broke the resolute back line of Everton with 21 minutes to go.

The strike was clever as he cut across the ball and it spun past Toffees keeper Jordan Pickford and in off the post.

It was the third game in a row that an Arsenal substitute has scored.

The game needed something special as it was ambling to a scoreless draw.
