Samrin Idris was said to be stuck in Port Sudan after UK diplomats refused to evacuate her and her Sudanese mother. The girl and her mother, Amina, 41, arrived in the Red Sea city on Sunday night after fleeing fighting between rival forces in Khartoum, the capital, according to The Times.
Asked about the case this morning, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said: “Our officials do have some degree of discretion, but I wouldn’t like to second guess from afar, decisions that they are making on the ground, because they’re the ones that are in full ownership of the facts.
