CALLUM WILSON says he is ready to stand in for Harry Kane at the World Cup and has insisted he is not in Qatar to merely make up the numbers.
The Newcastle striker was one of the more notable inclusions in Gareth Southgate's larger-than-usual 26-man England squad, and will be competing with Marcus Rashford to be captain Kane's understudy during the finals.
Tottenham striker Kane rarely takes time out and will be reluctant to miss any minutes in Qatar, as he chases Wayne Rooney's all-time England goal record and another World Cup Golden Boot.
But there is a distinct possibility that he will need a rest at some point, having played more minutes than any other top-flight player in the first half of the season.
