FIRST, THE BAD news. The increasing adoption of a Western lifestyle, characterised by sedentary habits, unhealthy dietary patterns and high-stress levels, has contributed to a surge in gastrointestinal (GI) disorders among the adult population in India. Specifically, the most noticeable rise is in patients experiencing irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and colon cancer or colorectal cancer. However, what is most concerning is the rapid increase in the incidence of GI disorders among young adults.
Now, the good news. Preventive measures like regular screening with assistance from advanced medical imaging technologies such as flexible endoscopy, next-generation ultra-sound systems, and artificial intelligence (AI) can reduce the burgeoning burden of GI disorders in India. According to Dheeraj Chaudhari, head of endoscopy systems division at Fujifilm India, the emergence of advanced technology has substantially transformed the outlook of assessment of GI disorders."New-age technologies like AIenabled CAD EYE technology are efficiently contributing to the early and real-time detection of the colon polyp and characterisation into cancerous and non-cancerous growth. In addition to this, some of the more recent advances in technology aids the diagnosis of upper GI such as the stomach and esophagus as well."
