He led the side to the semi-finals of the Ranji Trophy almost after a gap of 20 years in 1998, remained part of the Ranji Trophy winning side in 2005-06, captained Central Zone to win both Deodhar and Duleep Trophies and even as coach motivated the side for many laurels, including the runners-up title in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2021.

Once again, Pandey, a former India cricketer, is in the news for right purposes as the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association has appointed him as director of senior cricket. In his first assignment, Pandey on Tuesday left for Bengaluru, where former champions Uttar Pradesh meet Delhi in the quarterfinal match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 Trophy on Wednesday.

"I am ready to serve UPCA with my best of capabilities and my focus will be on the growth of the senior teams of Uttar Pradesh," said Pandey on Tuesday. "I always look for positive things and even now with a bigger responsibility in the UPCA, I will continue to do the same," he added.
