NEW DELHI:

Jaishankar began a six-day visit to the US on Tuesday, the first by a senior Indian functionary since Donald Trump won the presidential election in November. He is also expected to meet members of Trump's transition team, people familiar with the matter said on condition of anonymity.

Besides his meetings with the two key members of the outgoing Joe Biden administration, Jaishankar met with India's consul generals from the consulates in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Houston, and Atlanta on Friday to discuss ways to strengthen the bilateral partnership.

"Good to meet US NSA @JakeSullivan46 in Washington DC this morning. A wide-ranging discussion on the progress of [India-US] strategic partnership. Also exchanged views on current regional and global developments," Jaishankar said on X about his meeting with the US NSA on Friday.
