MPs submit notice in LS to impeach judge

MUMBAI: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday came out openly in support of the Allahabad high court judge who opposition Rajya Sabha members have sought to impeach for his controversial remarks at an event organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad last week in Prayagraj. Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav had made contentious statements and supported the Uniform Civil Code, and the role of majority rule in India. Video clips of the speech have gone viral on social media.

Addressing a gathering at the World Hindu Economic Forum in Mumbai on Saturday, Adityanath stated that the opposition was trying to stifle "the person who speaks the truth" by threatening him with impeachment but "still talk about the Constitution". "[Yadav] spoke about the Uniform Civil Code," he said. "What is wrong with that? Across the world, the sentiments of the majority community are respected in every situation."
