A tripartite agreement was signed in the presence of Modi by Rajasthan chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav, at a function in Dadiya village in Sanganer.
Yadav said: "The Centre will bear 90% of the cost of the project that is estimated at ₹70,000 crore and the two states will have to contribute five percent each."
Welcoming the project, Bharatpur-based activist Indal Singh said the government should implement the project without further delay. "In many places of eastern Rajasthan, the groundwater table has fallen to 700 feet. The dams are empty and farms are lying dry," said Singh, who is the convener of the Kisan Sangharsh Samiti that has been agitating since 2007 for the water project.
