CM: MMSY Will Churn Rural Economy, Empower Women
Hindustan Times Ranchi|January 07, 2025
Chief minister Hemant Soren on Monday disbursed ₹2,500 each into the bank accounts of 5.662 million women across Jharkhand with a click of a button under the Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojna (MMSY), underlining that the welfare scheme is aimed at churning and strengthening the rural economy, which would help eradicate poverty besides empowering women socially and economically.

RANCHI:

Addressing the mega event in Ranchi to mark the occasion, attended by thousands of beneficiary women, the chief minister further said the direct bank transfer (DBT) scheme would go a long way in empowering women financially to make independent decisions and realise their dreams.

"This scheme would lead to churning in the rural economy led by women. Around 18-20 per cent of the budget would boost the rural economy through these schemes. Women run the household; they are spendthrift. If we turn and utilise this money well together, it will help us eradicate poverty," said the chief minister.

"This scheme opens up several possibilities for women. They can now act independently and spend the money on education and healthcare, buying cylinders, purchasing nutritious food, creating self-employment, or even contributing better to their self-help groups. But this also lays extra responsibility on beneficiaries to use this money productively, or else it will defeat the purpose," he added.
