JAMSHEDPUR: The steel city of Jamshedpur on Saturday fondly recalled its association with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Tata Group chairperson Ratan Tata, both of whom breathed their last this year.
Singh, whose last rites were performed with full state honours at Nigam Bodh Ghat in New Delhi on Saturday, visited Jamshedpur as the then Prime Minister on April 22, 2008, for the centenary celebration of Tata Steel. He had also come to Jamshedpur and addressed an election rally in support of Congress candidate Ramashray Prasad in 2005.
The then Tata Steel MD, B. Muthuraman, welcomed Singh at the Sonari aerodrome on April 22, 2008. Dr. Singh planted a banyan tree near the Jayanti Lake in Jubilee Park, which is now in its full growth and has been christened as 'Centenary Park'.
