THE DEATH OF THE 18-YEAR-OLD STUDENT MARKED THE 19TH SUICIDE CASE IN THE COACHING HUB THIS YEAR

An 18-year-old student, who was preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission to undergraduate engineering courses, died by suicide in Kota district of Rajasthan on Saturday, officers familiar with the matter said, making it the 19th such incident in the coaching hub this year.

Last year, 27 students preparing for various competitive examinations died by suicide in the district.

Jawahar Nagar SHO, Hari Narayan Sharma, said the student was a resident of Madhya Pradesh and was preparing for JEE in Kota since April. "On Saturday, he jumped off the sixth floor of the hostel after cutting the safety net. The hostel staff rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead," Sharma said.

He said no suicide note was recovered from his hostel room.
