Farmers' associations, mostly from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab, have called for a "Delhi Chalo" march on February 13 to demand a law guaranteeing Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, one of the conditions they had set when they agreed to withdraw their agitation in 2021.
The Delhi Police have stepped up deployment ahead of the planned march, imposing restrictions on gathering of people and setting up barricades at the Capital's borders in an attempt to stop the protesters.
Addressing a convention of Punjab Congress in Ludhiana, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge said: "I congratulate the farmers of Punjab for again going to Delhi for their rights. The Congress will remain associated with this movement. They (BJP) brought a law to hand over farmers' land to big corporates. We fought to repeal these laws and will continue to fight in future," he said.
