Hospital-acquired pneumonia, bacterial infections of the throat and skin, and Hepatitis C are among the priority areas identified by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for new vaccine development, in addition to long-standing priorities for developing vaccines aimed at combating HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis.
In a study published in biomedicine, a biomedical open-access journal, WHO has named 17 pathogens "that regularly cause diseases in communities as top priorities for new vaccine development", the body said in a statement on Tuesday.
