€1.2bn record Meta fine over EU data breach

FACEBOOK'S parent company Meta has been fined a record €1.2 billion by the Irish Data Protection Commission - and taxpayers will benefit.

The penalty for breaches in transferring data between the United States and Europe is the largest-ever EU privacy penalty.

And the DPC confirmed the money will go straight into the coffers of the Irish Exchequer.

At the same time, the Apple illegal State aid case is up for hearing at the European Court of Justice. It has been already ruled that Apple owes us €13billion in back taxes after they lost the original case.

Ironically, the Irish government is fighting that decision for fear it will drive away foreign investment.
