MARY Lou McDonald bravely opened up about getting her womb and ovaries removed.
The Sinn Fein leader underwent a hysterectomy procedure in June and said the surgery "knocks you off course" but stressed she was "extremely lucky".
The TD also revealed it forced her to accept that she wasn't "superhuman" and that she was in another "stage of her life.
The 54-year-old said: "On the 24th of June, I had a hysterectomy so I lost my womb, my ovaries. So you know it was fairly significant surgery.
