Prem clubs splashed out out an incredible £2billion

THE transfer fees were mind boggling in the summer window.

Premier League clubs broke through the £2billion barrier for the first time as their spending went up by a staggering £440million on last year.

They broke the transfer record not just once, but twice, as Arsenal spent £105m on Declan Rice (right) only for Chelsea to eclipse them by buying Moises Caicedo for £115m.

But, incredibly, research carried out by football finance experts Deloitte shows net spend actually went down from £1.073bn in 2022 to £1.010bn in 2023, with clubs able to offload players, helped by the emergence of the Saudi Pro League.

And the other major surprise was that three clubs - Brighton, West Ham and Wolves- finished the window having made a profit.
