Pair arrested after man, 49, found with serious head injuries

 KILLED ON STAG NIGHT

A MAN has died after an early morning street attack while he was out celebrating on a stag weekend.

Paul 'Babs' Connolly, 49, was found with serious head injuries in Athlone, Co Roscommon, early yesterday.

A man in his 30s and a 19-year-old were arrested on suspicion of assault.

A source said: "Gardai are following a number of lines of inquiry. The deceased man may have fallen back and hit his head on the kerb.

The dead man, from Edenderry in Co Offaly, was with pals when he reportedly got caught up in a row outside a nightclub.

Mr. Connolly was rushed to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe where he was later pronounced dead.
