Boks lifted to world title on a tidal wave of pride and passion

SOUTH Africa just have this incredible will to win.

To clinch the quarter-final against hosts France, the last-four clash with England and then the final versus the All Blacks all by just a single point is remarkable. It just goes to show you how small margins can make such a huge difference in sport.

But South Africa's triumph is an incredible story of simple desire to succeed. They were in the hardest group which included Ireland and Scotland, they then beat the hosts in an intimidating atmosphere. But nothing fazed them. They have certainly earned this title.

Regular readers of this column will know I predicted a South Africa win at the start of the tournament, and you have to say the right team lifted the Webb Ellis trophy on Saturday night.

The All Blacks played their hearts out, they are a fantastic side and will come again, as they always do.

But the Boks were worthy winners and it speaks volumes that they now have four World Cups.

I watched the game at my local club Winnington Park and was sat with a couple of South Africans who were in tears at the end. The nation's passion for the sport is so strong.
