Alejandro Garnacho was still a name yet to gain traction outside of academy circles when United completed the flawed signing of Sancho in the summer of 2021. But a year later, he had begun to make waves as Antony became the second most expensive signing in the club's history.
Antony and Sancho occupy second and fifth on that list, but might be first and second for the worst signings United have ever made.
Sancho has trained on his own for four months having made little impact on the first team and has now returned to Borussia Dortmund on loan.
Antony is still at United, but he has no goals and one assist from his last 30 appearances and needs a miraculous upturn in performance levels to suggest he has a long-term future.
The reason for Sancho's long absence from the first-team squad is well documented now, after his public falling out with Erik ten Hag and his future will depend on whether the Dutchman is still in charge at Old Trafford this summer. Equally, Ten Hag's future might be dependant on one day getting a tune from the player convinced he United to sign, but who's now missed two of the last three games and is no longer in United's best XI.
