Yet, he still needs to do so much more to justify the £72m investment placed in him.
Hojlund arrived injured and struggled to adapt to the physicality of the English top flight, instead scoring the bulk of his goals in European competition.
The nature of his job title as United's main striker assures that he will ultimately be judged by a level of consistency and productivity that just cannot be reasonably expected from someone of his experience.
There is plenty of reason to be positive, though; just ask those who know him the best. Reading manager Ruben Selles was assistant coach at FC Copenhagen throughout Hojlund's time with their first team and is adamant that he can still become one of the very best in the world.
"Rasmus Hojlund is a learner," Selles told the TGG Podcast. "He learns a lot from the environment.
