Housebuilding target could fail by 23,000

GREATER Manchester is likely to miss its housebuilding target by more than 23,000 homes, according to a report.

The study by Centre for Cities suggests proposed planning changes will not be enough to meet Labour's 1.5m national target by 2029, with large urban areas having the biggest shortfalls.

The think tank found that the government is likely to miss its national target by at least 388,000 homes with Greater Manchester alone expected to be 23,256 homes short - 39 per cent below the target for the cityregion.

Deputy Prime Minister, Housing Ashton-under-Lyne Secretary and MP Angela Rayner set out changes to mandatory local housing targets in July.
