A YOUNG couple who were told to say goodbye to one of their premature twins are now celebrating the youngsters starting school.
Alex Grice gave birth to Archie and Ava 25 weeks and five days into her pregnancy.
Archie, born weighing 1lb 12oz and Ava, at 1lb 9oz, both had holes in their hearts. Moments after giving birth, Alex, from Ramsbottom, watched her newborns be hurried off into intensive care, where they were put on life support.
The tiny tots - born the size of Alex’s hand - were wrapped in ‘plastic bags’ to keep them warm.
Alex and partner Declan Real were told to say goodbye to Ava because doctors didn’t think she would make it through the night.
