Police were called to Hambridge Close in Cheetham Hill at around 9.35pm following reports of shots being fired at a home on the estate.
Four young children were inside who have been left ‘incredibly shaken’ by the ordeal, police said.
Horrified residents living nearby told of how officers remained at the scene overnight with a cordon in place, and that they were seen carrying out fingertip searches of the area.
Greater Manchester Police, who are investigating, said nobody was injured in the incident and that they are treating it as ‘isolated’ with no wider threat to the community.
