Donald Prentice Patience, 45, was discovered dead at his home on Ainsworth Road in Radcliffe, near Bury, on Tuesday, August 22.
A man has been charged with his murder and a trial date has been fixed for next year, the brief hearing at Rochdale Coroners Court heard yesterday.
Police coroner's officer, Kathy Dixon, said a 'passerby' saw an unknown man' coming out of Mr Patience's home with his dog' on the day and alerted police.
Officers attended and made an arrest, the inquest opening heard.
