Jailed surgeon putting families 'through hell'

A DISGRACED former breast surgeon now behind bars refused to take part in an inquest hearing into the deaths of 62 of his patients. A coroner has said he will use the full extent of his powers to make sure Ian Paterson attends future hearings.

He was jailed after carrying out unnecessary and unapproved procedures on more than 1,000 breast cancer patients over a period of around 14 years.

Paterson declined to attend to give evidence on generic issues to a preparatory hearing held on Thursday.
